11th Annual Sandbar 5K

The Outer Banks is home to a growing number of running events each year, with the highlight of the racing year being the Outer Banks Marathon.  The Sandbar 5K can not be discounted though.  It is home to perhaps the 2nd most difficult terrain for any event.  The varied contour of sand on the beach can turn a simple 5K into a grueling morning.  Hey...no pain...no gain.  The race begins at the MilePost 4.5 lifeguard tower.  Participants run north along the beach till the halfway point then turn and head south back to the finish line.  There will be prizes for the top finishers.  

Perhaps the most important part of the race, is that it is for charity.  The race raises funds and awareness for the Outer Banks Relief Foundation.  The Outer Banks Relief Foundation does an amazing job helping local Outer Banks residents.
